Following on from the success of the PJM Phase 1 learning lounge, we were asked to design a second facility within the PJM Utility block. Situated at the centre of the Pentre Jane Morgan residential campus, the block includes a laundry, study space and reception area for PJM resident students. The new learning lounge would serve both the existing students, as well as those for whom the additional 1000 residential rooms were being constructed.
In contrast to the aesthetics of PJM Phase 1, the facility in Phase 2 was designed with a completely different ‘feel’ – we chose a colour palette to compliment the University’s corporate image, designed new furniture shapes for the space and set more focus on small group collaboration rather than individual study.
The project works included demolition of the dividing wall between the 2 rooms to open up the space; new CAT 6 data infrastructure; new ceiling and lighting; decoration; new floor flashes; stainless steel and toughened glass screens; purpose made study furniture; coloured glass writing surfaces and colour co-ordinated task seating.
We have worked closely with Space Design on various projects and have found them to be innovative, provide an excellent service and any issues that have arised they have been resolved in a professional and timely manner.
