New Quay, home to Mariners Fish Restaurant, is located on Cardigan Bay with a harbour, large sandy beaches and year-round wild dolphin spotting trips. It lies on the Ceredigion Coast Path, and remains a popular seaside resort and traditional fishing town.
As would be expected in such a town, there are a number of restaurants competing for limited trade, which peaks during the summer months with an influx of holiday makers, but is relatively quite for the rest of the year, relying on locals to make up the majority of custom.
In order to take advantage of the summer trade, the owners of Mariners, Simon and Neris Church, decided to invest in the restaurant, which sits in a prominent location with great views over the bay. Space Design & Construction Ltd was invited to provide design input to the refurbishment project, which was lead by Byron Jenkins, a local architect.
The refurbishment included opening up the entrance with new aluminum doors and folding windows, giving customers access to a new ice cream parlour, a complete internal make-over with new food service counters, flooring, decoration, suspended ceilings, lighting, furniture and a full-wall graphic image of the town as viewed from the bay. With new branding, menus and external signage, designed specifically for the new-look Mariners, the radical change was complete.
They say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating – Mariners certainly scores highly on customer feedback for it’s food and is now set to become the top restaurant in town, drawing in visitors from far afield to sample the food, the views and the clean fresh look.
As part of the refurbishment of the Mariners Restaurant, on the sea front in New Quay, we appointed Space Design & Construction Ltd to help us with the design and fit out of the interior.
Keith Richardson, a Director of Space Design was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble; he guided us through every stage of the process from the initial design of how the space would look and operate, to the design and finish of the food service counters, furniture, flooring, colour scheme and even the full-wall image of the town, which is a real focal point for the restaurant. Keith was very proactive, answering any questions we had very swiftly and he personally managed the installation on site, which put our minds at ease and gave us tremendous confidence that the works would be carried out to a high standard.
As a result of their efforts we have increased our customer base substantially and would recommend their services to anyone seeking to create a top class restaurant.
