The ‘Devonshire Dome’ in Buxton is one of the most dramatic spaces in Britain and has the largest unsupported dome in Europe. Built in 1779 by the 5th Duke of Devonshire, this magnificent Grade II listed building is licensed for civil weddings and hosts some of the country’s premier events and banquets.
Until recently the Dome relied upon recycled waste bin housings, cobbled together to form a temporary bar service. Although functional, it did not fit with the grand nature of the setting. Space Design & Construction were appointed by The University of Derby, who own the building, to design and install a permanent bar, capable of operating a Costa Coffee offer the during the day and alcohol bar for events and functions.
To co-ordinate with the black and silver banquet setting, the bar was finished using a combination of black gloss laminates and stainless steel, with LED feature lighting. All displays were hidden behind pocket folding doors so that the entire area can be locked and hidden away when not in use. Since the installation of the new bar, event bookings have almost doubled!
