On the 1st July 2013 Blackwell Grange Golf Club relocated to the former Stressholme Golf Club site, following an exchange deal with Darlington Borough Council. The move heralded a new era for Blackwell Grange, which had been at it’s old home for almost 100 years.
After a period of settling in and adjustment, the club has undergone dramatic changes over recent months, which included the construction of a new Pro shop, driving range and locker rooms, along with the much-needed refurbishment of the lounge bar, which was looking very dark and dated.
Following a successful pitch for the works, Space Design & Construction Ltd were awarded the contract ahead of stiff local competition and began the process of finalising design details with the committee.
On Monday 21st September the lounge bar refurbishment got underway and was back open for business only 3 weeks later on Saturday 10th October. The works included a complete strip out of the existing area, new flooring, decoration, lighting, bar finishes, glass handrails, furniture and wall art. During the fit-out it was discovered that two of the internal columns were in fact false and subsequently removed to really open up the space. The impact is that space now offers a far greater degree of cohesion, especially for the club’s function nights.
Bernard Gallacher OBE performed the official opening of the new facilities and as a long-time ‘friend’ of Blackwell Grange Golf Club, was very impressed with the improvements and congratulated the club on it’s vision and desire to provide facilities of the highest standard to the membership.
The completed scheme has been very well received by the members, staff and visitors alike, with table bookings for Sunday lunch on an all-time high!
