As a direct consequence of its popularity, the Eat @ Bites café located within the Medical School was struggling to cope with student demand, particularly around lunchtime, which would often result in long queues and customers forced to eat elsewhere.
At the request of the Catering Manager, Space Design & Construction were asked to look at the current set-up, with a view to re-designing the area to improve flow. Focusing more on the high throughput self-help offers, we were able to implement a solution which not only helped greatly to eleviate queues, frustration and loss of custom, but in so doing generated considerably more income; a win-win for the University.
Following approval by the Head of Catering, we carried out the re-modelling works which included the provision of new catering and storage equipment along with mobile food service counters with finishes to match the existing units.
The works were completed during the summer shut-down ready for the start of the new student year.
Space Design & Construction really helped us to make the most of the limited space, which in turn has made the Café more profitable.
